Lake Maggiore Express (Centovalley Round trip)

The Centovalley Train or Lake Maggiore Express is actually a day's round trip by narrow gauge train and ferry.

You depart Stresa on the normal train and travel as far as Domodossola where you change on to the quaint narrow gauge "Centovalley" train - one of Switzerland/Italy's most scenic journeys. The Lake Maggiore Express winds its way slowly up to reach the many bridges and viaducts that span the valleys and there are spectacular views from the train.

The Centovalley Train takes you to Locarno which is in Switzerland at the northern tip of Lake Maggiore. You have free time in Locarno where we recommend taking the funicular to see the Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary before catching the late afternoon ferry back to Stresa, relaxing on the outside deck as you cruise between the many lakeside towns.

Where can we buy tickets?

We are official agents for the Lake Maggiore Express / Centovalley Railway so pop in and see us in Stresa for tickets. Please note that bookings close at 17.00 the day before travel.

Should we book in advance?

We advise you to book in advance to ensure you have your seats reserved for the Centovalley Railway.

Why can't we travel every day?

The full round trip depends on the ferry service between Locarno and Stresa. This does not operate every day. However, if you are not able to travel on the days this ferry operates you can still use the Centovalli train to travel both ways as it operates every day.
