Other Days Out Around Lake Maggiore

There are a wealth of days out which you can do independently using the local ferry service to get around.

A particularly enjoyable day out is on the narrow gauge Centovalley Train (Lake Maggiore Express), returning to Stresa by ferry.

In the Stresa area you are spoilt for choice for gardens to visit on the Borromean Islands and at Villa Taranto near Pallanza.

For unrivalled views of the lake and the surrounding mountains the Mottarone Cable Car is a must.

If you like walking there are plenty of routes accessible from Stresa and even more further afield.

If you happen to have a hire car then why not explore as far as Val Verzasca at the Swiss end of the lake above Locarno. You can drive all the way up the valley and see the dam where the James Bond Goldeneye bungee jump was, stop at a riverside restaurant for a rustic lunch and marvel at the incredibly clear turquoise water that flows down to the lake.
